Cornerstones Curriculum

As of the beginning of the new school year, we have made an exiting new change to the Cornerstones curriculum. Below are some frequently asked questions about the curriculum, please click on the links above to view your child's new curriculum.

What is the Cornerstones Curriculum?

The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic primary curriculum written specifically to help schools deliver the new primary National Curriculum for 2014. Delivered through 70 inspiring and thematic Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs), the Cornerstones Curriculum is brilliantly thought out and expertly written, saving you hours of time and ensuring you have secure and comprehensive coverage of the new National Curriculum.

How do Cornerstones maintain creativity in a facts driven curriculum? There have been concerns that the amount of content in the new National Curriculum will limit creative approaches to teaching and learning. Finding ways to deliver the new National Curriculum that inspire children to learn will be a challenge. That is why we have done the hard work for you. Our ILPs provide you with a rich menu of exciting and motivating ideas and activities that make creative links between National Curriculum subjects. Running throughout the Cornerstones Curriculum are the essential skills of questioning, problem solving, research, communication, self-expression and play. All our projects have an instant ‘grab’ factor that will hook your children immediately, immersing them in sensory and memorable first-hand experiences that will build on their natural curiosity and serve as a springboard for deeper learning.

Does having a creative curriculum mean you lose pace and rigour?

No – that’s the best bit. The Cornerstones Curriculum is fully supported by a Medium Term Curriculum Map, so that you can be safe in the knowledge that your curriculum has full coverage of the new Programmes of Study. Additionally, each activity is supported by an age appropriate ‘Essential (age-related) Skill’ leaving you to create the magic of creative learning- but with ‘backbone’.

How do we assess children’s progress using the Cornerstones Curriculum?

The system of ‘levels’ used to report children’s attainment and progress have now been removed and will not be replaced. To support schools with the assessment and tracking of children’s progress, the Cornerstones Curriculum is supported by an ‘Essential Skills’ framework. Developed for each year group, these age-related skills maps ensure that you can track children’s progress, identifying their individual learning needs.
